Plungers keep electronic sensors safe
from harm
A new range of mechanical sensing elements can bear the brunt of harsh environments and still accurately transmit positioning data.
Sensing of a component's position is an important aspect of any application, be it within special purpose machines, production fixtures or dies Electronic sensors, while extremely accurate, are often prone to damage in the harsh environments of many applications, eg heat, swarf, corrosive fluids etc, and once damaged electronic sensors are expensive to replace

The new Wixroyd catalogue includes new spring plungers, new socket pins, new toggle clamps, new pneumatic clamps, new clamping levers and new T-nuts plus much more.
What is often needed is an accurate mechanical sensing element to bear the brunt of the harsh environment, and still accurately transmit positioning data.
Wixroyd's new mechanical sensing elements are just the answer, based on a spring plunger design they incorporate a spring-loaded plunger with actuating bolt, which reflects the position of components to a standard inductive sensor which can be integrated into the rear.
The mechanical sensing element can be adjusted throughout the entire stroke of the plunger, enabling variation of the switching range to any point.
An additional benefit is the way in which the electronic sensor is integrated in to the body of the sensing element, this effectively protects the electronic sensor from any damage from swarf, fluid or heat.
Wixroyd mechanical sensing elements can also be used to transmit positional data to a totally independent electronic sensing element, should space be limited in the application.
Based on the same spring plunger design the element's actuating bolt, which is secured against turning, can be used to mount a sensing "flag" to interrupt or break a sensing beam located elsewhere in the application.
