RF Winder Electrical has completed delivery on a major contract for the installation of transformers and switchgear.

RF Winder Electrical has completed delivery on a major contract for the installation of transformers and switchgear The contract, worth GBP 0.25 million, meant that Winder had to pull out all the stops to ensure that the order was completed within a four-week deadline set by the customer

Winder, which was founded over a century ago, won the order against stiff competition for the supply of 20 transformers and switchgear to a war-torn overseas location, which for contractual reasons must remain secret.

The order, which was delivered in July, required the company's employees to work around the clock, in order to meet the challenge.

The delivery time was the vital factor in Winder securing the contract, and the Leeds team had to introduce 24-hour working in order to design, manufacture and supply the equipment which will help restore power in a war-damaged country.

The company was helped by having an existing stock of many of the essential raw materials and also being able to source the other items very quickly.

The multi-ratio high-voltage transformers will be used for stepping up to 11000, 6600 and 3300V from a generation voltage of 400V.

The equipment has been designed to be suitable for operation in high ambient temperatures of over 50C igrade, and for work in hostile conditions.

The transformers, which are supplied on a rental basis, will have versatility built in to their design as they may be moved to other countries after finishing working in the original designated country.

Winder Sales Director Paul Matthews says the company won the contract after convincing the buyer that in addition to it being a competitive price, it would be able to work to the deadline and fulfil the contract on time.

He says: "Speed really was of the essence in this contract.

Equipment was already being installed on-site and, when constructed, our transformers and switchgear needed to be installed.

We are pleased to have completed on time and made things happen".

"Our ability to source raw material quickly meant that we could get started on the work immediately.

We knew this contract would be a challenge from the start but we have a dedicated, hardworking team here in Leeds, who have all pulled together and made sure that we met the July deadline", added a delighted Matthews.
