Outside face seal heads for Chicago

A Meco Shaft Seals product story

Chicago show (9th to 11th May 2006) will feature outside face seal originally conceived for high-temperature and high-speed applications, where double-face seals can overheat and fail.

Stand number 2414 at the International Powder and Bulk Solids Expo in Chicago (9th to 11th May 2006) will be showing the latest innovation in sealing technology: the outside face seal (OFS).

This single-face design was originally conceived for high-temperature and high-speed applications, where double-face seals can overheat and fail.

The OFS is for the containment of vapours in vertical-shaft vessels and operates without a purge or flush system.

Meco Seals earned its most recent patent for this design, which maintains constant seal-face pressure as components wear.

The OFS is suitable for top-entry agitators, where long, cantilevered shafts can exhibit high runout and angular misalignment.

The seal will permit significant axial motion, making it suitable for applications where there are shaft float and thermal expansion.

It is available unsplit or fully split, and in various materials combinations for increased compatibility with acids, bases and aromatic hydrocarbons.

The seal can be built with no elastomers, permitting its use with aggressive chemistries.

These seals suit vacuum environments, often cutting process times in half due to increased vacuum containment.

All the seals are custom-engineered to suit applications, providing an alternative to packing glands that is simple to install in rotating bulk process machinery.

Used in industries as diverse as chocolate, polyolefins and gypsum processing, these fully split seals contain solids, liquids, vapours and gases.

Meco builds a minimum of 6mm diametric shaft run-out into all its designs.

Those models which are air-purged use low flow rates, approaching zero.
