Single source flow controls the key for Silberline
Non-leafing aluminium-based pigment supplier Silberline selected Invensys Flow Control because it was able to provide a single point of contact for a recent project's entire flow control dimension
Silberline is the world's leading supplier of non-leafing aluminium-based pigments, used extensively within the automotive and plastics industries, in printing inks and for industrial coatings.
The company's sole manufacturing plant outside the US is based at Leven, Scotland.
Leven has an enviab1e track record - the company has just received its third Queen's Award (for Enterprise) from Princess Anne - and it was the first business of its kind to achieve ISO 9001, Investors in People and ISO 14001 recognition.
Demand for its products has grown significantly alongside a growing appreciation of the importance of design to product acceptance by consumers.
New products have been developed to allow industrial stylists to apply metallic silver finishes to their products.
Pigment production is a multi stage process.
The process has a complex flow control requirement, encompassing a wide variety of valves and control units, together with sophisticated instrumentation and measurement capabilities.
From the outset of the expansion project, Silberline saw that a short supply chain was key to a successful implementation.
Explains project/process engineer Rob Gillan: "It was absolutely essential that we use a supplier with an in-depth understanding of both the technical and commercial issues surrounding our process requirements.
After an evaluation exercise we selected Invensys Flow Control who, crucially, were able to provide us with a single point of contact for the project's entire flow control dimension.
The Invensys solution was adopted at the design stage and was the result of collaboration between the IFC controls team and instrumentation specialists from sister company, Foxboro.
Comments Stuart Wishart, sales and marketing director for Invensys Flow Control UK: "Increasingly major companies are insisting on an optimised supply chain for major projects.
The Silberline expansion demonstrates why - major economies, process efficiencies and high-quality plant automation were delivered.".
