Against fierce competition, UK company Flowserve Flow Control has been awarded a contract to supply 84 electrically operated ball valves fitted with Fluorofill seats to the Harbin Boiler Co (HBC) of China.

HBC is the largest utilities boiler manufacturer in China, occupying sites totalling 760,000m2 and making over 3900 products.

The firm's main products are 300 and 600MW utilities boilers.

Until now it has produced boilers with a total capacity of 60,000MW, which represents 35% of all thermal units manufactured in China.

More than 200 power plants in China have been equipped with boilers made by HBC and units have been exported to more than 20 countries and regions outside China.

Recently HBC has successfully developed new products including large capacity circulation fluidised bed (CFB) boilers using the latest technology, including valve control of the fuel system.

Three of these boilers, with capacities of 135MW each are to be installed in Xinxiang and Kaifeng City in the Henan Province of China.

As there is no instrument air supply on the sites, the valves will have to be electrically operated, and due to the fast-acting operation of the fuel system they will have to be closed within 3s.

"The Flowserve electrically operated ball valves fitted the bill perfectly.

Our Fluorofill seats enable us to ensure closure within three seconds and give us a technical advantage over our competitors", commented Stuart Wishart, Sales Director of Flowserve Flow Control.

"We have worked with Flowserve in the past", said Zhu Hong, Assistant Director, International Business Department of Harbin Boiler.

"The firm has a high reputation in the power industry and we have developed good working relationships with Flowserve on both the technical and commercial sides of our operation.

Their products are of the highest technical specification and prices are competitive", she concluded.
