Ball valve reduces downstream risks
A novel ball valve provides a positive release of downstream energy when closed, minimising the dangers of stored energy from liquid or gas locked in a process system.
Stored energy from liquid or gas locked in a process system once a valve has been closed can represent a serious hazard downstream if equipment is being maintained, according to Flowserve Flow Control (UK) The company has introduced a special ball valve that provides a positive release of downstream energy when the valve is closed, which minimises this risk

Valves supply refrigerant on fish processing ship
Grenco selected Flowserve Worcester V-Flow control valves and series 44 three-piece ball valves to control the supply of CO2 refrigerant to 36 Optimar vertical plate freezers.
Based on the Worcester Series 44 three-piece design, the valve uses a ball and seat combination that allows normal flow when open, but automatically discharges downstream pressure when closed through a vent in the base of the valve.
Typical applications for this product would encompass any system where stored energy could represent a hazard during maintenance, such as conveyor systems, steam feed lines, compressed gases etc For the additional safety of maintenance personnel, Flowserve recommends the self-venting valve is used in conjunction with its new lockable wrench, which provides tamper-proof integrity once the valve has been locked.
