A working agreement has been established between mechanical seals manufacturer Flowserve - Flow Solutions Division, and Pump-Tec UK, which specialises in the service and repair of rotating machinery.

This joint company initiative will provide a complete vessel seal service for the pharmaceutical, food manufacture, general processing or chemical industries and other end users in the UK and Ireland.

The objectives will be to provide high performance sealing options for traditional gland packings and other inferior sealing products, providing companies with upgrades and conversions for their reactors, agitators, mixers and other containment vessels to meet the very highest performance, safety and operating criteria.

The Flowserve company has considerable expertise in the design and manufacture of sealing products and will be responsible for the supply of replacement seals, together with any re-engineering or repair work required.

Pump-Tec will undertake seal removal and fitting of replacements, including associated installation and commissioning.

All work will be undertaken by qualified technicians with a genuine 24/365 call-out availability and after sales service.

Work and parts supplied are covered by guarantees on quality, workmanship and materials, supported by a full 12 month warranty.

Some of the mechanical shaft seals that will be available include the Flowserve VRA and MSS units.

The VRA seal is a dry running unit with a sanitary gland option, designed specifically for use with top entry mixers and agitators.

The economical MSS seal is a split seal, designed for wet or dry running in the toughest operating conditions on mixers, reactors and general containment vessels.

This includes older equipment where severe shaft wobble and high run-out eccentricities can be involved.

Depending upon the seals selected, operating conditions can range from full vacuum to 13.8bar at temperatures up to 149C.

Shaft sizes from 25 to 305mm diameter can be accommodated at speeds of 350rev/min dry and 1750rev/min wet.
