Flowserve's Worcester CPT characterised seat control valve is engineered as a control valve and provides reliable operation and precise valve positioning in the most critical throttling conditions.

Flowserve, a global provider of fluid motion and control products and services, has released the Worcester CPT characterised seat control valve.

The CPT series ball valve is engineered as a control valve and provides reliable operation and precise valve positioning in the most critical throttling conditions.

Flowserve's Worcester CPT valves offer many customisable features that enable them to be used for some of the processing industries' highest-precision applications.

CPT series valves can be used in systems that control steam pressure or pH levels, operate in low temperature cryogenic conditions or up to 538C, and meet EPA and OSHA specifications for containing toxic chemicals.

Widely used in the oil and gas industry, the CPT has been approved by Factory Mutual for fuel gas safety shutoff service and flow control.

CPT valves feature a patented seat technology, made from self-lubricated, full-contact sintered stainless steel, impregnated throughout with TFE or graphite.

This unique seating material provides positive shutoff and eliminates galling when paired with the hard-coated, super-round ball, which leads to lower torque, greater precision, and longer equipment life.

Seats are available in several standard equal-percentage "V" shapes or linear-characteristic slots, as well as other customised characteristics such as dual-angle, noise/cavitation attenuation, and multistage pressure drop.

These features permit the CPT valve to be optimised for any specific application, and to be re-configured when system parameters change.

CPT seats are cut either by digitally controlled electrical discharge machining (EDM) or through Worcester's patented laser process.

Designing custom seats is also economical for the user, requiring only a setup charge to create a virtually limitless number of designs.

Unlike traditional control valves, a resilient polymeric seat is dedicated to drop-tight, zero-leakage shutoff while the characterised metal seat is used for throttling.

Combined with a floating ball design, this enables the CPT valve to be bi-directional and still exceed ANSI Class VI shutoff.

In addition to a choice of seats, the CPT series offers a wide variety of alloys and elastomers for corrosion and erosion resistance.

The characterised seat design enables the use of exotic materials such as Inconel 600, Hastelloy C22, Stellite 6, or Monel.

A choice of connections includes NPT, SW, BW, flanges, wafer, sanitary and compression.

"The CPT's unique control valve design is highly customisable compared to competing solutions, enabling it to be used in a wide variety of applications", said Kyle Ahlfinger, Vice President, Marketing, Flowserve Flow Control.

"Precise control in the most critical operating conditions, combined with the choice of materials and seating options, offer CPT users performance features beyond traditional globe control valves".
