WTI Fasteners is continuing its support of the Formula Student competition by supplying UBRacing from Birmingham University with wire thread inserts for various components on its cars.

Last year, UBRacing was on target to finish in second or third place, but finished eighth out of the 38 teams following a problem with overheating.

The team's 2004 car was unveiled recently by the Le Mans winning Bentley driver Guy Smith.

The day was a great success with around 80 guests looking at the engineering innovations and achievements that normally go unnoticed underneath beautiful bodywork.

The totally revamped differential housing was redesigned and hand machined by Paul Bott, using 47 WTI helically coiled wire thread inserts to exploit the light weight and economic benefits of aluminium while providing thread tensile strength greater than steel providing high clamping loads required for maximum stiffness and reliability.
