Energy Efficiency service for plant
engineers
Wyko has introduced an Energy Efficiency Programme that combines a range of products and services designed to provide practical solutions to energy saving in all areas of industry.
Wyko has introduced an Energy Efficiency Programme that combines a range of products and services designed to provide practical solutions to energy saving in all areas of industry These include comprehensive energy efficiency audits, qualified efficiency status reports on plant equipment and working practice, new equipment supply and commissioning, repairs, replacements and engineered improvements to existing installations
A complete energy survey requires Wyko to establish an up to date plant inventory, gain an understanding of the production processes on site, and review current energy efficiency policy and practices.
Recommendations are then made on how reductions in energy consumption might be achieved.
Wyko also recognise that any costs involved in implementation have to be rationalised and seen as an investment by the client company.
To facilitate this process, a lifetime cost analysis is also provided, giving a timescale for capital equipment payback through the energy savings that are made.
This will be of particular interest to manufacturing or processing sites where changes to large numbers of pumps, motors and gearboxes can represent a large-scale investment and require detailed financial justification.
The savings that can result from basic improvements are impressive and repayment times can hence be very short.
The fitting of a variable speed drive to a 75kW motor for example, can save up to ?10,000 a year in electricity costs when driving pumps or fans that are in constant use.
Wyko Industrial Services, as both a distributor and repairer of electric motors, pumps and gearboxes offer a unique repair or replace opportunity which is unlikely from any other distributor (who will provide a new one every time) or repairer (who will always repair first, even if it is not cost effective).
Variable speed drives are just one of the product groups for which users can claim an enhanced capital allowance, alongside high efficiency motors, lighting, thermal screens, boilers, refrigeration systems, CHP and pipe work insulation.
Industry figures state that motors are responsible for 64% of UK industrial electricity consumption and for this reason, are another effective focus point for energy saving.
Substantial savings can be made by switching to a more efficient motor (EFF1) at the same rating as the original.
Even greater savings if the motor can be downsized at the same time.
Part of Wyko's approach of offering genuinely independent advice is to employ a multi brand approach to motor supply, providing as a result, the most cost efficient solution for the customer's application.
The application of Wyko's Energy Efficiency Programme reaches further than installing energy saving plant equipment.
One specialised service that can also be applied is condition monitoring.
Normally linked with failure prevention, in the hands of trained technicians, it can be used to detect losses in liquid or gas flow and leaks in compressed air, water and steam flows.
Thermography can be used to detect heat loss, blocked pipes, low cooling oil and overheating - all contributes to a loss of efficiency.
Energy saving measures are most effective when applied as part of a structured and carefully monitored plan, supported by regular scheduled maintenance and emergency technical support.
Wyko provides both these services to the Water and effluent processing industry and has done for many years.
Services are implemented by teams of support engineers and repair specialists on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The teams also provide free access to another essential service supplied with all Wyko's work, independent, experienced and reliable technical advice.
