Windows allow thermal inspection

Wyko has introduced two innovative CTI Cyclops inspection windows that are simple to fit, safe and are completely transparent to a thermal imaging camera.

The general use of thermal imaging for maintenance monitoring in industry is being hampered by traditional viewing methods, that obscure the thermal trace or put operators safety at risk by having to open cabinets and doors for access To overcome this increasingly common problem, Wyko has introduced two innovative CTI Cyclops inspection windows that are simple to fit, safe and are completely transparent to a thermal imaging camera

Most thermal imaging devices on the market today are based on digital camera technology and require direct line-of-site to record an accurate image.

Traditional glass or Perspex viewing windows however, block the heat trace that gives the reading.

In order to gain an accurate image, operators often have to open up a series of cabinets and enclosures to make regular checks.

This can be a time consuming and potentially hazardous procedure, especially with high voltages and currents, rotating shafts and other moving machinery present.

The new CTI Cyclops units from Wyko have been developed by industry experts Cockburn Thermal Imaging.

Both models, the LSF-C and LSF-M are designed specifically for critical applications that require all equipment and components to generate 'low smoke and fumes', hence the LSF prefix.

The LSF-C is supplied with a crystal lens and the LSF-M has an alloy mesh grill, both are suitable for fitting to any flat enclosure and are totally transparent to digital thermal imaging cameras.

The new models are already proving successful, having been installed in the Channel Tunnel as part of an upgrading programme to provide high safety standards for travellers and operating staff.

The LSF performance has been achieved by using appropriate materials and assembly techniques, including anodised aluminium housings, non-flammable gasket material and aluminium mesh or crystal for the viewing ports.

Both crystal and mesh types provide extremely clear images while offering two different levels of security.

When not in use the, lens or mesh is protected by aluminium or Plexiglas swing-cover.

The LSF-C models with crystal viewing ports also meet very high standards in respect of dust and water ingress.

This model is rated to IP65 during use and when the protective cover is in place, one of the highest standards possible in respect of penetration by solid objects and water.

These are the only thermographic inspection windows in the world to meet the IP65 rating at all times.

The LSF models are supplied in 50 and 75mm viewing diameters, both giving an excellent field of view for thermal imaging cameras and so ensuring convenient and reliable surveying facilities.

For example, the 50mm model provides a viewing area of over 1.3m2 at a cabinet depth of 200mm.

While the C-type windows are suitable for any situation, including those where the public may have access, the M-type mesh versions are recommended for high-security areas or where low voltages are involved.

Both models are ideal for use as a simple retrofit item in almost any manufacturing or process industry sector.

As specialists in maintenance and monitoring services, Wyko not only supplies and fits the CTI Cyclops products, but Wyko maintenance engineers also use them in many contract maintenance situations to improve safety and increase the speed and efficiency of routine checks.

This practical experience has resulted in complete confidence in the product, which is all covered by a six-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

All the CTI Cyclops windows are designed to be particularly easy for customers to fit, or can be fitted by Wyko's own Condition Monitoring Engineers.

Each kit is supplied with full instructions, and fitting usually takes about 10min. Request a free brochure from Eriks UK ...
