Wyko has a new compact series of drum motors for powering conveyors in a range of industrial applications from the food industry to general bulk handling.

Wyko has a new compact series of drum motors for powering conveyors in a range of industrial applications from the food industry to general bulk handling.

The BDL drum motors use high quality internal gears and a number of innovative design features to provide both high reliability and precise operation.

Options include stainless steel components; advanced sealing and a range of drum surface coverings for driving various types of conveyor belt.

Power ratings range from 0.018 to 5.5kW and drum diameters from 82 to 320mm.

Wyko also offers a full refurbishment service for any make of size drum motor.

A drum motor comprises an electric motor and an integrated gearbox enclosed by a rotating drum.

The compact design and high power of BDL drum motors makes them effective in a multitude of applications, including multilevel systems in areas where space is restricted.

Advanced squirrel cage electric motors also ensure compactness, providing power ratings of up to 5.5kW and correspondingly high levels of torque.

Other important factors such as reliability and long wear-life are achieved through the use of high-grade hardened transmission components and a robust cast iron gearbox case.

A rear flange made from high-density aluminium or cast iron also gives the unit extra protection in harsh working environments.

Drums are fitted with TF thermal protection against overheating and/or overloading.

Motors are CE approved and are configured for three phase power supply as standard.

Single phase is also available on request.

Used in combination with inverter drives, the BDL range offers smooth and precise speed control.

This provides an ideal solution for materials handling systems such as baggage X-ray machines where belt speed and load position is paramount.

For automated processing and packaging applications, each drum motor can be supplied with an internal encoder, providing constant feedback data.

High-quality steel construction and precision machining of the motor ensure a longer operating life with reduced noise and vibration.

Durability is also enhanced by use of precision deep-groove ball and needle roller bearings rated for over 20kh of continuous use under full load.

The use of SAF90 gear oil inside the drum also cools the electric motor and lubricates all transmission parts inside, providing an extended and maintenance-free service life.

The drum motors are available from Wyko with aluminium or 316 grade stainless steel end housings which feature integrated double-lipped seals and additional labyrinth sealing.

The advanced sealing prevents the ingress of dust particles and enables the units to withstand high pressure cleaning from all directions.

The seals themselves are also available in stainless steel and can provide up to IP67 protection, making them an ideal choice for use in food and processing industries where regular washdowns are required.

Profiled lagging options available are also ideal for the food industry; supplied in rubber, neoprene, silicone and PVC, they provide a protective oil and fat resistant interface between the drum and the conveyor belt.

The profiled lagging enables BDL drives to drive nearly every type of module belt without needing sprockets.
