Motor repairers turn plant detectives
An apparently routine emergency repair call from one of Europe's largest metal screw manufacturers turned into a riddle for Yaskawa Engineering Europe.
Many of the routes up Kilimanjaro are named after drinks.
Leijdekker took the more glamorous "double-whiskey route" over the "Coca-Cola route".
Even though it entailed hours of trekking through mud, it did, however, offer spectacular views.
By the third day, both the vegetation and the number of tourists were thinning out and, via a sandy rocky trail, Leijdekker and his friend reached 4600m.
The final ascent, on the fifth day, started at 0030 at -10C.
They traversed gravel, snow, ice and the rock face of the Western Breach and, after a short additional one-hour trip to the crater, at 0930 they reached the Uhuru peak.
According to Leijdekker: "It is difficult to describe your feelings at such a moment but it is a combination of being tired, happy, amazed and sad that the dream is over".
