Motor repairers turn plant detectives
An apparently routine emergency repair call from one of Europe's largest metal screw manufacturers turned into a riddle for Yaskawa Engineering Europe.
An apparently routine emergency repair call from one of Europe's largest metal screw manufacturers turned into a riddle for Yaskawa Engineering Europe (EEU) The eventual solution called on all of Yaskawa's engineers' service skills and ingenuity to solve the problem and prevent a production line shutdown that would have resulted in substantial financial penalties for the screw manufacturer

New system cuts motor repair times
Yaskawa Engineering Europe (EEU) has created a new system for managing the repair and refurbishment of motors and drives from the Yaskawa range.
Yaskawa Engineering Europe (EEU) was originally called to a broken down Yaskawa Sigma 2 IP55 AC servomotor, a failure which, it transpired, was the result of the motor being accidentally filled with oil.
As there was no exchange motor available to short notice, urgent repairs were carried out in-house to enable production to be quickly resumed.
When a second breakdown occurred - apparently for the same reasons as before - EEU engineers carried out a second repair, and modified the motor to uprate it to IP67, free of charge.
Following a third call, and still faced with the same problem, EEU engineers turned detective, and carried out a full environmental and application analyses at the customer's plant; eventually tracking down the source of the oil problem, which had nothing to do with the Yaskawa kit itself.
The engineers were able to carry out relatively minor modifications to the installation to prevent a recurrence of the problem, and the servomotor was duly refurbished - all at no cost to the customer.
The determination of Yaskawa Engineering to "go the extra mile" in looking after customers typifies the company's commitment to providing exemplary global support on a local level.
This network of support extends to include any kind of Yaskawa equipment throughout Europe, the Middle East and the African continent.
