Yaskawa's Scottish manufacturing facility in Cumbernauld has begun the production of servo drives.

The facility, which is a major manufacturing plant for AC inverters, now also makes a variety of drives within the Yaskawa Sigma servo range.

The new servo production lines represent a considerable investment in the UK for the company, with dedicated production and test facilities being installed.

All the staff in the manufacturing process are local people.

Yaskawa is the world's largest drives manufacturer with over a million drives produced last year.

The company has enjoyed particular success with its servo products in the UK and Europe over the past few years and the additional manufacturing capacity created in the UK reflects the need to meet market demand for the products.

The Scottish factory covers 10,000m2, with expansion possibilities up to 30,000m2.

Production of AC inverters at the site has increased three-fold to 18,000 a month in the past two years.

The facility's quality record is second to none - another factor in the decision to take on the assembly of high precision servo drives at the plant.
