Yaskawa Electric Europe and Omron Europe have set up a joint venture company to market and support the two companies' industrial automation products throughout Europe.
The joint venture company, registered in the Netherlands as Omron Yaskawa Motion Control, is capitalised 60% by Omron and 40% by Yaskawa.
Initial staffing will be 12 people, based at the joint venture company's headquarters, housed within Omron's existing European offices in Hoofddorp, near Amsterdam.
Omron Yaskawa Motion Control starts trading on 1st April 2003 and is expected to have a first year turnover of nearly Eur 100 million.
Yaskawa is the world's largest volume manufacturer of motor control equipment, and Omron is a global leader in the manufacture and supply of a broad range of automation products.
Both are global companies of Japanese origin.
Omron Yaskawa Motion Control will employ the existing network of Omron subsidiaries and its established national sales companies (NSCs) to supply goods to customers.
Additionally, existing Yaskawa distributors and partners will join the Omron NSC network.
Yaskawa will continue to provide strong technical support, product development and marketing within Europe, through the new joint venture company and directly to its major accounts.
Yaskawa has enjoyed a long trading partnership with Omron.
For many years Yaskawa has manufactured, in the UK, USA, China and Japan, precision electric motors and motion control equipment sold by Omron under its own brand.
Yaskawa products sold in Europe through Omron Yaskawa Motion Control will be branded Yaskawa Omron.
All part numbers will remain Yaskawa's to facilitate global support for the products by Yaskawa.
Yaskawa Electric's European President, Gen Kudoh, commented on the new initiative by saying, "Yaskawa has great strength in product design and manufacturing.
We have a history of pioneering the application of advanced automation, motion and control technology with a reputation for reliability that is second to none".
He went on to explain, "Omron provides complete automation solutions to industry, has a well established, efficient and effective distribution network and is a tier one supplier in Europe.
Our collaboration means industry has greater access to Yaskawa products, while Omron can deliver additional products to our existing customers".
