Commenting on the successful completion of the Y2K programme, David Whiting, Manager of Yokogawa's Customer Service Division, said: "Feedback from our customers indicated that they appreciated the advance planning, and 'painless implementation', which contrasted with the last-minute panic, and costly measures, adopted elsewhere in the Industry, and 'headlined' in the information technology area." Yokogawa's distributed control systems handle many safety-critical applications in areas that include nuclear power, offshore oil exploration and extraction, and the chemical industry.
The company's process instrumentation systems also make extensive use of digital technologies, including advanced exploitation of Fieldbus communications systems.
"The critical nature of many of the application sectors meant that we had to be able to assure our customers that their systems would carry on operating normally over the Y2K period", adds David Whiting: "Our efforts have now paid off in terms of a complete lack of operational problems and a satisfied customer base.".
