Yokogawa is now offering users of legacy Honeywell distributed control systems a migration path which promises increased reliability combined with a lower total cost of ownership.

These legacy Honeywell systems, including the TDC2000/3000 and the TPS, will soon need to be replaced following Honeywell's announcement of its new Experion PKS system, and the Yokogawa migration approach will allow users to replace their systems with the Yokogawa Centum CS3000 system without touching a single wire from the field.

"This solution is low cost, low risk and cost effective", says Des Irvine, Systems Sales Director for Yokogawa UK.

"The CS3000 system is the most reliable DCS on the market today, and offers a state-of-the-art operating system together with the openness demanded by users".

The migration solution developed by Yokogawa involves the legacy controllers and process interface units being replaced by CS3000 I/O units and processors using special marshalling panels and adapter cables that connect to the existing Honeywell terminal panels.

"Normally, transferring user applications from the Honeywell legacy controllers would constitute a major part of the migration work and could be very time-consuming", says Irvine.

"The Yokogawa approach, however, enables efficient and secure migration from the legacy system to the CS3000 using field-proven engineering methods with suitable conversion software".

The fact that no field wiring needs to be disturbed results in a dramatic reduction in process downtime, since no new cabinets have to be rewired.

In fact, because of the compact design and the high density of the CS3000's I/O cards, the overall number of cabinets required is reduced, and valuable space is made free as a consequence.

The Yokogawa migration approach supports basic, extended, multifunction and advanced multifunction controllers, high-level process interface units, and all IOPs for process managers.

A database conversion tool is also available.

The Centum CS3000 R3 DCS is the most advanced of Yokogawa's control system offerings.

It offers the full advantages of Hart and Foundation Fieldbus, enhanced connectivity with other open information systems, and gradual and scheduled migration from earlier models of the Centum series.

Yokogawa was the first to market with a commercially released DCS, redundant Foundation Fieldbus, Windows XP compliance in a DCS, and full test functions on a PC broadband I/O bus.
