Young Engineers has appointed Stuart Ellins as Chief Executive, a new post created to drive growth of the club network and engage more schools and industry in the nationwide programme of activities.

Young Engineers has appointed Captain Stuart Ellins as Chief Executive, a new post created by the board to drive growth of the club network and engage more schools and industry in the nationwide programme of activities.

Recently merged with the Young Electronic Designer Awards (YEDA) Trust, and supported by the Government, industry and professional institutions, Young Engineers' mission is to inspire and engage young people in all aspects of engineering and so help Britain to address the growing skills shortage in this vital sector.

Ellins is a marine engineer and a fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers; he takes up his role in March, having recently served as a Captain in the Royal Navy on the staff of the Second Sea Lord at Portsmouth as Director, Manpower Capability Development.

He is married to Cassie, a head teacher, and lives in Portsmouth.

Dave Rowley, National Director of Young Engineers for the last four years, who lives in Bristol, has left the organisation to join the Engineering Employers Federation, Western, focusing on education programmes with engineering and aerospace companies.

Commenting on these management changes, Young Engineers Chairman, Chris Hoare, said: "We are indebted to Dave for his hard work over the past four years and would like to wish him every success in his new post, one in which we look forward to a continuing relationship with him in the future".

"We are especially fortunate to welcome 'Stu' Ellins into the new role of Chief Executive following his distinguished career in the Royal Navy, during which time he has ably demonstrated his engineering, management and leadership skills".

"As an experienced engineer, with considerable HR experience, he is well aware of the importance of motivating young people to take up engineering and we are confident that he will bring the enthusiasm and vision needed for Young Engineers to help make this happen".
