Total success for information management
system
A state-of-the-art plant information management system has proved itself during the first six months of running at Elf Petroleum Nigeria.
A state-of-the-art plant information management system (PIMS), driven by four high performance Exaquantum servers from Yokogawa Marex of Cowes UK, and installed by Yokogawa France, has proved itself during the first six months of running at Elf Petroleum Nigeria Total's Nigerian subsidiary required a plant information system that would collect field data from different locations, perform powerful real-time data processing, archive long-term information and generate summary files and profit generating business analysis via FTP protocol; it chose Exaquantum from Yokogawa

Information management aids paper mill savings
The Exaquantum plant information management system has enabled operational expense savings of more than $2 million for the operators of one of the world's largest paper mills
Each plant is controlled by a distributed control system (DCS) from Yokogawa and others.
The purpose of the Exaquantum system is to collect data from each DCS via the industry standard OLE for Process Control (OPC) protocol and to generate files requested by third party applications.
The key functions of the system are to provide real-time data processing, hourly and daily aggregations, historisation of raw and aggregated data and file data in a CSV format.
The information from the Exaquantum system is passed to a specialist reservoir modelling solution that allows Total's geologists to accurately define and manage the reserves at their disposal.
Total's selection of Yokogawa information systems was based on the mutual trust built from a long-term customer partnership, the proven credibility of Yokogawa's IT approach and solutions in the oil and gas sector, and the ease of data access Exaquantum can offer with no custom programming.
Yokogawa already had proven expertise working with Total, as demonstrated in the Girasol project for Elf Angola.
The ability to offer a turnkey system engineering capability from Yokogawa France was also a key factor in Total's decision.
The Nigerian project has further strengthened Yokogawa France's long-term relationship with Total, which has its global headquarters in Paris, France.
