The PZ4000 digital power meter from Yokogawa is now available with a plug-in module specifically designed to test the efficiency of electric motors.

The PZ4000 digital power meter from Yokogawa is now available with a plug-in module specifically designed to test the efficiency of electric motors.

The two-channel unit has inputs for measuring torque and speed, either from an analogue signal input or from pulses from suitable transducers.

By measuring the electrical power consumption and relating it to the torque and speed, the instrument makes it possible to calculate and analyse the overall efficiency of the motor.

The high-speed measurement functions of the PZ4000 enable values to be measured and displayed cycle by cycle.

The new instrument is particularly suited to measurements on invertor-driven motors, which are now being developed for use in domestic appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators and air-conditioners as well as in electric vehicles.

This technology can lead to significant energy savings, which can be accurately measured and verified by the PZ4000.

The PZ4000 is a digital wattmeter with high-frequency capability up to 2 MHz.

It has a large menu-driven TFT screen which will display instantaneous values, integrated values, and voltage, current and power waveforms.

High-speed sampling (up to 5 GS/s) allows complex start-up characteristics to be analysed.

Voltage ranges are up to 1 kV, and DC current inputs are up to 20 A, with higher values possible using external current sensors.

Accuracy is 0.2%.
