Yokogawa has introduced a new version of its automotive engine combustion analysis software, designed for use with its digital oscilloscopes and PC-based data-acquisition systems.

Yokogawa has introduced a new version (Version 4.0) of its automotive engine combustion analysis software, designed for use with the company's DL750 and DL708E/716 Series of digital oscilloscopes and WE7000 Series of PC-based data-acquisition systems New features of the software package include the ability to analyse and display multiple data simultaneously, so that analysis results can be checked at the same time that online monitoring is being carried out

Also new is a USB 1.1 real-time monitor interface for the DL750, the ability to save and recall analysis conditions, and the facility for analysing additional parameters including LNV, misfire rate and cylinder-to-cylinder average value.

Analysis of transient combustion pressure is possible thanks to the ability to measure intake pipe pressure and temperature, engine speed and fuel consumption.

This type of analysis is a key factor in the development of clean, high-efficiency engines.

The software enables engine combustion pressures to be analysed for engines using a variety of fuels, with versions available for petrol, diesel and natural-gas engines.

The software will work with both two- and four-cycle engines, and the user can select the absolute pressure correction method (averaging or cycle-by-cycle).

The software operates on captured input signals representing parameters such as cylinder pressure and crank angle (with resolution down to 0.1 degrees), along with a TDC (top dead centre) signal calculated from the monitored data.

Typical displays show a graph of cylinder pressure versus crank angle or cylinder pressure versus piston displacement, plus a three-dimensional display showing variations over time.

Combustion pressure analysis and calculation results can be saved as text files, and selected calculated parameters can be displayed in graphical form.

Cylinder pressure analysis relative to crank angle can be displayed with up to 720 results, and transient analysis is displayed relative to the number of cycles.

In addition to the USB interface for the DL750, Ethernet interfaces are provide for linking the measuring instruments to a PC.
