Control system process functionality enhanced
Yokogawa Electric Corp has released a new version of its flagship integrated production control system.
The conventional vessel-related type approval has been specifically for hardware.
Hardware is tested before approval to determine whether durability and environmental resistance are adequate.
In contrast, for software, approval had to be obtained separately for quality and quality control systems on a project (vessel) basis.
In recent years, however, there has been a growing need to acquire type approval for software quality in accordance with an appropriate standard (ISO90003) to shorten lead times and reduce costs in response to demands from the brisk maritime transport and structure markets.
Acquisition of the Software Conformity Assessment Certificate from Lloyd's Register has exempted Yokogawa from the obligation to gain conformance approval on a project basis for the emergency shutdown system (ESDS) that it delivers to LNG carriers and the like, and for its vessel instrumentation control systems.
In addition, Yokogawa is now able to fully incorporate the functions of the ESDS, which used to be a separate system on a project basis, into its integrated production control system.
Yokogawa is working to obtain the certificate for a wider range of applications, including engine chamber safety systems.
Taking this opportunity, Yokogawa will step up integrated production control system sales to LNG carriers and expand this business, including ESDS.
