Vehicle test facility gains intercooler capability

A Young Calibration product story

The 200kW heat rejection facility at Young Calibration provides detailed performance characteristics for passenger car, light duty truck and motorsport type radiators.

The 200kW heat rejection facility at Young Calibration has been providing customers with detailed performance characteristics for passenger car, light duty truck and motorsport type radiators for the past 3 years.

The coolant calorimetric radiator testing facility has recently completed its first upgrade for testing at extended face velocities, now giving greater scope for covering both trailer tow and Vmax conditions.

Measurements cover coolant and air-side parameters for pressure drop, coolant flows, face velocity and heat rejection.

With UKAS accreditation granted in May 2002, the facility is the only UK independent accredited laboratory offering tests of this type.

Coupled with an extensive range of UKAS flow calibration test rigs, for flowmeter calibration on water and oil, and traceable air flowmeter calibration for engine blow by and air intake measurement, the facility boasts some of the widest scope of facilities for the automotive industry.

Completing build in September this year, the company will soon be adding an intercooler heat rejection facility to its portfolio.

Covering charge air mass flows to 0.3kg/s and charge temperatures up to 250øC, the facility will cover the passenger car and small truck market.
