Recent upgrades to the calorimetric heat exchanger test rig at Young Calibration have expanded the scope of testing to high performance Formula 1 and truck engine heat exchangers.

Recent upgrades to the calorimetric heat exchanger test rig at Young Calibration have expanded the scope of testing to high performance Formula 1 and truck engine heat exchangers.

The universal test rig provides detailed hydraulic and thermal performance assessment of automotive heat exchangers, such as radiators, intercoolers and oil coolers, with flow rates, temperatures and pressures capable of matching operating conditions in a range of high power output vehicles.

Upgrades to the intercooler pumping systems now allow for flow rates up to 1500kg/h and pressures to 3.1bar, covering the latest phase of R and D of passenger car and truck engine operating conditions.

With the addition of a full ratiometric thermal imaging system, detailed thermal analysis and visual assessments can be completed for the most complex heat exchanger designs, as well as providing a quick and easy way of identifying manufacturing defects and poor performing coolers.
