Gearmotors shrink for medical applications

A Zeitlauf product story

The innovative Performax range of gearmotors has now been extended to include 32mm diameter models.

The innovative Performax range of gearmotors from Zeitlauf, which combine high power density with near-silent running, has now been extended to include 32mm diameter models.

Gearmotors of this size are rapidly growing in popularity for use in medical applications such as peristaltic pumps, where the quiet operation and inherent reliability of the Performax products makes them a particularly suitable choice.

Like all gearmotors in the Performax range, the new 32mm models comprise a long-life mechanically commutated permanent magnet DC motor, mated with a Performax planetary gearhead.

Output shafts are ground and hardened, and are available in feather key or face variants.

The gearheads feature a patented modular design and, for their input stage, use gears with noise-optimised helical teeth.

To further reduce noise levels and to minimise power losses, the planetary wheels in the first stage are precision fabricated from engineering plastics.

The unique design of the gearheads means that reduction ratios of up to 17:1 can be achieved with a single stage.

Two-stage gearheads extend the range of available reduction ratios up to 204:1.

Depending on the ratio, the new 32mm gearmotors deliver maximum output torques from 0.09 to 2.67Nm.

Performax gearmotors from Zeitlauf have an ingress protection rating of IP40, and an operating temperature range of -20 to +80C.

Designed for maintenance-free operation, they are grease lubricated for life.

The versatility of these compact and cost-effective units is further enhanced by a range of options.

These include brakes and encoders, which can be incorporated in the motor housing during manufacture, as well as motor controllers and switch-mode power supplies.

Like all Performax gearmotors, the new models are delivered assembled and fully tested, ready for immediate installation in the user's equipment.
