UK brakes/clutches distribution network completed

A ZF Great Britain product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 13, 2001

Now it is ZF Industrial's distributor for the north of England, Newton Tesla has been able to specify and supply tension control systems to machine builders in the food packaging industry

The appointment of Newton Tesla (Electric Drives) as ZF Industrial's distributor for the north of England ensures that the ZF hysteresis range of non-contact, dust-free, brakes and clutches are available from specialist suppliers throughout the UK.

Newton Tesla provides a supply, fitting and backup service for ZF's hysteresis range, benefiting companies based in the north of England which require high levels of tension control in endless production processes e.g manufacturers of wire, cable, paper, textiles, foil, food and pharmaceuticals.

The considerable growth potential of ZF Industrial's unique range of hysteresis tension control products has been further underlined with this latest distributor appointment.

Newton Tesla (Electric Drives) was founded in 1987 and gained a wealth of experience designing and fitting AC and DC variable speed drives in the steel industry.

The company has now developed into a leading supplier of power transmission and automation systems to the UK cement, water and paper industries.

The addition of ZF's hysteresis brakes and clutches has already helped Newton Tesla to specify control systems in other key manufacturing areas.

George Newton, Managing Director of Newton Tesla stated that "the non-contact, dust-free operation of ZF's hysteresis brakes and clutches makes them ideally suited to contaminant-free power transmission applications in both the food and cable manufacturing industries.

Because we are now a supplier for the ZF range, we have been able to specify and supply tension control systems to machine builders in the food packaging industry.

Not only is the hysteresis range contaminant free, but the precise control which the units offer allows machines to achieve a perfect seal when applying plastic membranes to food cartons".

The durability, versatility and compact size of the ZF range, will also enable Newton Tesla to realise opportunities in other industries where precise tension control in the handling of endless material production is required.

The company has already supplied ZF brakes and clutches to a large manufacturer of multi core computer cable.

Mr Newton explains "the ZF range was perfect for this application because a constant tension could be maintained on multiple strands of fine wire in order to make a complex cable that had to have repeat characteristics".

Welcoming the new appointment, ZF Industrial's Account Manager, Rob Pearson, said that: "The north of England has historically been the manufacturing centre of the UK and still offers a considerable growth potential for our hysteresis products.

No one is more conveniently situated or qualified to realise this potential than Warrington based Newton Tesla.

The company's established links with key market sectors such as textiles, paper and printing are the ideal platform from which to launch the benefits of our dust and wear free tension control range.

The appointment is also timely because more and more process and control engineers are realizing that, whilst a servo system is almost always the first choice for precision applications, it may not always be the best choice, especially when there is a highly efficient and cost effective alternative available, such as our hysteresis range of products.
