Clark is keen on ZF's brakes and clutches

A ZF Great Britain product story

Clark Electric Clutch reckons it can now offer customers advanced bespoke tension control solutions in a fraction of the normal time using ZF's novel hysteresis range of noncontact brakes and clutches.

Clark Electric Clutch provides a specialist supply and backup service for ZF's hysteresis range, benefiting companies who have endless production systems or operate in contaminant-free environments, eg manufacturers of wire, cable, paper, foil, food and pharmaceuticals.

The company manufactures its own range of electromagnetic friction brakes and clutches, with over 40 years experience.

Their aim has always been: "to supply the best possible solution to customer's needs", which often involves supplying parts or whole systems made by other transmission equipment manufacturers.

Graham Butler, MD at Clark Electric explained that the company believed that there was a product gap in their range, which would be best filled with ZF's hysteresis range of non-contact, dust-free, brakes and clutches: "Clark Electric chose the hysteresis range of products to complement our service because we considered ZF to be a manufacturer of top grade components who offered both supplier and customer the best service.

Since we have started supplying ZF brakes and clutches, we have already been able to expand our service by supplying extended through shaft assemblies with precision control for test rigs in the automotive industry.

The noncontact nature of the ZF systems makes them perfect for the application, allowing load and break points to be consistently met and the absence of abrasive dust also contributing to the accuracy of results".

Since the company was founded, Clark Electric has supplied tension control systems to customers with a diverse range of applications in the paper, plastics and cable industries.

It is this diversity coupled with customer focus, which Butler considers to be the two most important factors in their continued success.

With the addition of ZF's hysteresis range, the company hopes to expand further into industries where contamination cannot be tolerated such as the food, packaging and pharmaceutical industries.

ZF's hysteresis brakes and clutches provide a cost effective and much simpler alternative to servosystems in precise tension control applications.

Their exact control, and the unique combination of contact- free and, therefore, wear-free torque transmission, is ideally suited to all manufacturing processes where control of tension is required, eg the production of endless products such as wire, cable, paper, foil and film.
