Flexible specs for high-efficiency gear range

A ZF Great Britain product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 4, 2003

The Graessner range of bevel gearboxes and gear sets is designed to provide the flexibility, precision, performance and reliability required in modern power transmission and automation applications.

ZF Industrial's new Graessner range of bevel gearboxes and gear sets is designed to provide the flexibility, precision, performance and reliability required in modern power transmission and automation applications.

Highly efficient (98%) to reduce energy costs, the range offers graduated performance with units that offer superior precision at low cost, high torque and rigidity, excellent levels of mounting flexibility and also high levels of customisation.

The ValueGear is the entry-level unit of ZF's Graessner range.

Providing high quality at low cost, the single stage, right angle ValueGear is the ideal OEM product.

It is available in four sizes offering output torques from 10 to 80Nm and ratios of 1:1 and 2:1.

Robust and reliable, the ValueGear is packed with synthetic grease for lifetime lubrication, and integrates "T" slots in its construction that provide unlimited adaptation possibilities for mounting.

Offering the same levels of flexibility and efficiency (98%) as the ValueGear, but with higher levels of performance is the PowerGear.

An extremely rigid design and optimised gear tooth contact pattern enables PowerGear units to provide the highest possible torque performance (4800Nm) from the smallest size envelope.

The gearboxes are also easy to fit; no external shaft couplings or flanges are required as the motor-compatible PowerGear units enable the user and OEM to save on both installation space and external equipment costs.

Further long- term savings can also result from the use of PowerGear units in the maintenance area.

The gearboxes are lubricated for life with synthetic grease and, depending on their size, are maintenance-free, if operated under normal conditions.

Both ValueGear and PowerGear are designed to the needs of general industry.

Increasingly, however, gearbox requirements are non-standard or outright special.

Uniquely, the Graessner range takes account of this fact with the DesignGear.

DesignGear provides the ultimate facility for OEMs to fulfil their special gearbox requirements.

A list of recent specials that underline this fact includes, labyrinth and switch reverse gearboxes, reverse gearboxes, double gearboxes with two ratios, special gearboxes with three output shafts, two-stage gearboxes with ratios up to 50:1 and torque output to 7500Nm and manual change gearboxes.

In addition to offering standard and special gearbox units, ZF is also catering for companies that require loose spiral, hypoid or Zerol bevel gear sets for inclusion in their own machinery and tools.

The gears offer the advantages of high contact ratios, noise and vibration damping, high efficiency (better than 97%), soft transmission of motion, reduced stress concentration and insensitivity to elastic deformation.

They are manufactured in sizes (outer gear diameters) up to 410mm with maximum face widths to 66mm.

On request, all the gear sets can be lapped and matched to customers' specifications.

Zerol bevel gears have a 00 mean spiral angle and are a combination between spiral bevel and straight teeth bevel gears.
