Materials tester gets the measure of paper
For the development of high-quality offset printing paper, knowledge of the force versus indentation performance during printing is essential for clean printing.
For the development of high-quality offset printing paper, knowledge of the force versus indentation performance during printing is essential for clean printing.
Missing raster points and blurry print are undesired.
A compressibility test, in which a specimen of printing paper is loaded up to the nominal load, provides an insight into the performance of the paper during offset printing.
Both compressive force and indentation are measured during the test and a very high-resolution indentation measurement system is necessary to measure values which are typically in the range of 10um.
The Zwick Roell solution is based on traditional hardness testing where similar indentations are measured: a compression platen with floating bearing is loaded by a ball joint and presses onto the paper.
The indentation into the paper is measured with a resolution of 20nm.
This innovative indentation measurement system is totally integrated into the hardness measurement head.
Users will benefit from the quick-change indenter, automatic reconfiguration for different specimen thicknesses, automated test sequence control and result evaluation which guarantees a quick and easy - yet very precise and reliable testing process.
The tests are evaluated automatically using Zwick's testXpert test software and the results and required statistics can be presented automatically in a clearly laid out report.
This test report can easily be customised to customer requirements and, in addition, it is possible to transfer the data to external databases or LIMS systems.
The Zwick hardness testing solution with hardness measurement head can be used in standard universal testing machines as well as in automatic testing systems, and a production control option for pass/fail tests is also possible.
The indentation/depth measurement system corresponds to accuracy class 0.2 of ISO9513.
